Announcers Jay Randolph and Mike Shannon also discussed the vintage game a bit.

Lions Cinderella Tale Ends
Ugly sisters beat them up, 2 of 3
Sept 12th, 2009 (UNIVERSITY MO) - Last season the Lions topped off a Cinderella season by sweeping the Missouri Cup. One year later, that Cup turned into a pumpkin. In the first two matches against the Perfectos and Unions, Ucity kept it close early on, only to have the bottom fall out. After suffering losses where no honor can be taken, the club bucked up to win their final match against the Cyclones 14-12.

The throw is too late as Chatterbox crosses home. Bookworms blocks the low throw to hold the runners.

Match notes:
The Lions had to use some imagination fielding their only 9 players who made the trip to Lafayette Square Park. Knapsack, who usually pitches, played shortstop for the first time. And Chatterbox, who usually pitches, played center.

Buffalo, did yeoman work hurling both matches and had a 4 hit day.

Smokey had a career day in the field, playing a solid third, and making some great throwing putouts to first.

Slug had both a career day in the field and at the plate. He reached base 7 times in 8 at bats. Behind the plate he caught foul tips and popouts. In the final match he caught the last out, nabbing a spinning foul ball with one hand.

Chatterbox drives the ball with Lighting standing on third.

Little Egypt is off to first.

Slug awaits a Charlie Brown pitch

In the first match Lighting batted in the 7th with a chance to hit for the cycle, but grounded into a force out.

Thunder reached base 4 time in the final match. She also had her first career RBI.

The Cyclones, Wheels, hit a 3 run homerun in the 7th inning of match 2.

8 of the 9 Lions scored atleast 1 run on the day.

In the 2nd match the Lions batted around with Slug getting 2 hits that inning.

Lighting played steller defense catching all the balls hit to him in left. Many of them, on the fly.

Thanks to Chatterbox the Lions made a interesting strategic move. With left handers at bat, the Lions played the rightfielder shallow, almost between 2nd and 1st. This let the shortstop roam the outfield, close to the rightfield line.

Special thanks to Pegleg who preformed an excellent job as the match arbirator.

The Lions will play the Cyclones next, September 12th, in the Missouri Cup.

Earlier this season, the two clubs were rained out. It has yet to be determined if the matches will be made up in October.

Thunder and Moose yuk it up.

Long Nines Lump Lions

August 22, 2009 (UNIVERSITY CITY, MO) - Ucity played kind hosts as the Springfield Long Nines visited and left town with a pair of victories. The matches christen their third home field, Jack Buck field. The rains held off, and the bright sunshine made it perfect for vintage base ball. The Lions have lost 7 of their last 8 matches. They hope to snap the losing ways as they take on the Lafayette Cyclones in Lafayette Park this weekend.
